Tips for Creative Campaign Photography

What makes your photoshoot campaign unique?

When working with clients, one of the most important lessons that I’ve learned as a photographer is creating content that not only looks shows off the product, but one that is unique and tells a story. In this article, I’ll talk through some quick ideas that I go through when working with other brands or businesses to create content for their digital marketing.

WORKING WITH A MODEL

One of my favorite things to do when working with a brand is to include a model in the photoshoot. Working with a model not only has the potential to introduce action and interactivity with the shoot, but it also provides an opportunity for customers to see real-world applications of the product being photographed. I think customers are more likely to be invested in a product that they can see themselves owning, and one way to show that is to feature a model wearing or using the product.

Additionally, if you’re looking to target a certain demographic with a campaign shoot, bringing models to the shoot is the perfect way to target your demographic through photo and video content.

LOCATION

Another important aspect of creating an interesting commercial campaign shoot is adding location to the final product. As a travel photographer, one of my favorite things is showing off a product outdoors with a model. Whether it’s at the beach or in the mountains, adding a location (as opposed to a white wall background) can set your campaign apart from others and plays a part in the storytelling of a photoshoot.

This topic comes in play especially for travel brands like backpacks or carry-on luggage. Having your content shown in a variety of locations is a great way to create visually appealing, brand-specific content. The white background shots are standard, but utilizing a location takes creativity that is well worth it when you see the final product.
